From 16 to 18 December 2024, the second ordinary session of the CICC Technical Commissions took place at the Golden Palace Hotel in Gand-Bassam, Côte d’Ivoire. Present at this annual meeting were 73 participants, including 54 delegates sitting in the commissions and coming from the member countries of the institution, namely Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal and Togo. Also taking part in this meeting as observers were representatives of the partners MOVE/GIZ, ProCashew/CNFA, Pro2GRN/GIZ, ACA, REDAA, NIRAS as well as resource persons from the CICC countries and Tanzania.
The meeting provided an opportunity to review the situation of the cashew industry in the world, and particularly in the CICC countries, with regard to the issues of research & development, production, processing, local and international trade, consumption of products in the producing countries as well as the update on the promotional policies implemented.
At the end of the workshop, in-depth in the three Technical Commissions of the CICC, which are the Scientific Conference, the College of Agricultural Production and the Commission for the Promotion of Processing, the delegates agreed on the actions and recommendations to be implemented by the countries of the institution for a sustainable and inclusive cashew industry. The results of these meetings, which placed particular emphasis on financing, increasing processing, local consumption and cooperation between States, will be processed and submitted to the 7th Council of Ministers of the institution which will take place in Conakry, Guinea, in April 2025.
On the sidelines of this meeting, the CICC organized a tribute ceremony to Mrs. Rita Weidinger, Head of the MOVE/GIZ Project at the end of her mission within the said project for the high value-added service provided to the African cashew industry over the last two decades.
The CICC is an intergovernmental organization for the promotion of cashew based in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. It is open to producing, processing, importing and consuming countries. Its supreme decision-making body is the Council of Ministers.
